Mercedes AMG's performance at the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix was another challenging race for the team, continuing the inconsistencies that plagued their season. Lewis Hamilton managed to finish in eighth place after running as high as third, while his teammate George Russell had to retire late in the race due to engine temperature issues. These struggles came after the team had hoped their W14 car would be more competitive following its upgrades. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff expressed frustration with the lack of consistency, noting that a car that had performed well in the previous races had now faltered in Brazil, underlining the uncertainty the team faced going into the 2024 season.

Historically, Mercedes has had a strong record at Interlagos, with the team securing multiple podiums and victories in the past, including George Russell's first-ever win for Mercedes in 2022. However, the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix revealed deeper issues with the W14 that prompted the team to accelerate their plans for a completely new car philosophy for 2024.
